The hike starts with an arrival night at Drakie Camp among Cederberg rock formations.
The first walking day is about 18 km, following two-track paths through Speelkloof and past the Grashoek area before linking local routes between the Cederberg communities and reaching camp near Eselbank. The route follows a perennial river for part of the day, then uses a footpath toward Kleinvlei.
The 20 km second stage visits the Eselbank waterfall area, moves across sandy tracks, rocky plateau and fynbos, and passes the rock feature locally known as Ereboog. A descending single track and stream-side walking lead to Akkeba Camp.
Day four is around 15 km, with short but steep ascents on an old 4×4 route. The high point gives views over the Cederberg, Tankwa Karoo and Wupperthal valley before the group camps at Vaalheuning. The final 12.5 km descends on a 4×4 track toward Wupperthal, including loose-rock sections, and ends in the village.
What to expect
Underfoot conditions vary from narrow trail to sandy and gravel road, rocky plateau and loose descent. A sustained uphill section and a short, steeper rise feature on the route. Watercourses can make the valleys greener than their surroundings, but hikers should rely only on the water plan supplied by the operator.
Bring a proven day pack, hiking shoes with good grip, trekking poles if helpful, sun protection, warm layers, personal first-aid and blister-care items, drinking-water capacity, a headlamp, personal eating gear and your own tent and bedding unless a current package specifically provides them.
Camps
Overnights are in remote, wild-camping locations: Drakie Camp, a site near Eselbank, Akkeba Camp and Vaalheuning. The organiser transports camp equipment and provides temporary basic sanitation and water arrangements. Confirm the current tent, shower, toilet and weather arrangements before booking.
