Limpopo offers a rewarding contrast of landscapes for walkers: misty Magoebaskloof forest, the Waterberg’s sandstone ridges, the Soutpansberg, river valleys, archaeological country and the wide bushveld of the Lowveld. That variety is the province’s strength, but it also means that no single piece of hiking advice fits every destination. Magoebaskloof and the surrounding escarpment are a natural starting point for hikers who enjoy forest, waterfalls and cooler mountain air. The Waterberg adds more open country, geological drama, wildlife reserves and cultural landscapes, while the Soutpansberg offers a distinct north-eastern mountain character.
