The Wilds Nature Reserve is a 16-hectare nature reserve on the koppies at Houghton, close to Johannesburg’s inner city. A Short Walk with a Big City View
Footpaths ramble across the hillsides, linking planted and natural areas, viewpoints and the sundial at the high point of the reserve. The Wilds is therefore best approached as a scenic urban koppie walk, not as a long or technical hike. Move at an unhurried pace, pause at the viewpoints and let the route be guided by the paths rather than trying to create your own cross-country shortcut.

The waterfalls, fountains and indigenous planting create a softer landscape than the surrounding city streets, while the skyline views make the reserve popular for photography. Not a Braai or Pool Destination
The Wilds should not be confused with a resort-style day-visit venue. There is no published basis to promise swimming pools, braai facilities, camping or a long marked hiking circuit. Small approved corporate events and photography may be possible, but need to be arranged directly with the operator.
